Subtitles' translation project - How to lead

You will get the following files from the client:
  * Subtitles in STL, SRT and RTF formats (via email)
  * Script in PDF or DOC format (via FTP)
  * Film in mp4 format (via the platform)

Terms

Suber - (from “subtitler”) person who translates subtitles.
Re-suber - reviewer who checks the translated subtitles.
SDH suber - person who creates SDH subtitles.
SDH re-suber - reviewer who checks the created SDH subtitles.
NC - our cloud server Nextcloud.

Workflow

  1. Upload stl + rtf, script and film to NC to folder “netflix” (1 folder - 1 film) and share it
  2. Add films' names, dates and other info to VDM table
  3. Add links to the films to VDM table (you will use them to send to the subers)
  4. Agree with the subers on the following
  5. Send the following information for work:
    • Netflix specifications
    • Link to the film on NC
    • The short instructions:
The spotting is already done, but if you need to put 2 subtitles together, lengthen one for better visibility or whatever, here are the technical standards we use:
- 2 images before and after shot
- Max. 42 characters per line.
- Max 2 lines per subtitle.
- Min of 21 images for a subtitle
- Max 7 seconds for a subtitle
- 4 images between each subtitle
- attention to the number of characters per line (punctuation and spaces are to be counted)
- be careful with line breaks, sometimes capitalization is automatic
- do not forget the italic formatting

You will find the general standards as well as the standards by language, please read them carefully. The readability and the number of characters per line are indicated.

NB: When you return your files, please name them as follows:

TITLE_LANGUAGE_NETFLIX_V1 Ex : LEJOURSELEVE_ENG_NETFLIX_V1
