HOW TO USE RADIO BUTTONS

Currently 3 radio buttons are available in the webapp:

1. The source string is not in the expected language:
a. Use this checkbox when the source string is completely in a wrong language, that is, in a language different from the expected one. The translation textbox will become grey. Click submit.

b. If only a part is in another language, translate the rest. Leave the words in the wrong language as they are.

2. Bad Source: completely garbled
a. Use this checkbox only in case the source is completely made up of random characters such as “fdkljdisdfsdo”. The translation textbox will become grey. Then, click submit.

b. If only a part is garbled, do not use this option: type the garbled part as is leave it as is and translate the rest of the sentence.

3. Bad Source: completely nonsensical
a. Use this option when the source text is in the expected language but does not make sense. Once selected, enter a word-for-word translation, even if it does not make sense. Then, click “submit”.

b. If a part of the sentence makes sense, do not use this option: translate the nonsensical part literally; the rest of the sentence, translate it as you normally would.

To revert any of these selections, click the “clear selection” button.

*DO NOT USE these radio buttons in the following scenarios:

  • Symbols: If the source string just contains a symbol or a punctuation like “>”, “*” or “-”, this should be left as in the source.
  • Emojis: If the source string just contains emojis, copy emojis directly from source into target.
  • Truncated strings: Translate the part the appears in the source. Do not try to guess what the rest string would be. In the incomplete example “Many people started to go to the woman's new” we should not deduce the place where people have started to go, just translate it as it is.
  • Numbers: If the source string just contains numbers as Arabic numerals (123) , they should be transferred as Arabic numerals (123) in the target.
